Peter Grimes

This performance is based off the opera Peter Grimes, written by Benjamin Britten. Peter Grimes tells the story of a fisherman (Peter Grimes) and how he is disdained by his fellow villagers. This disdain increases when his apprentice dies, and Peters own mental health declines, until eventually a mob forms to get rid of Peter, and Peter leaves in his boat in the end of the opera, having been told to sink it.

This speculative version is site specific, based in an old lace factory in Nottingham, before it was converted into flats.

The idea around this design was that the village was stuck in these events, doomed to repeat them every time the sea came in. So with the sea came the start of the story, as well as the mold and water damage to the buildings. The characters themselves would be ghost-like, with rotting clothes, unable to leave due to the repeating past.
