BYMT Placement

Last Saturday I finished my two week placement at #BYMT, for their 'Our Girls Our Game' production, working as an assistant designer.

It was so chaotic but so so much fun!

When I say it was a two week placement, I mean that in the sense that in the first week the cast were getting their roles and starting their first round of rehearsals and learning the scripts, and by the end of the second week we had finished our performances at the Birmingham Hippodrome. Chaotic, jam-packed with things to do, but such an amazing experience.

During those two weeks I was acting as assistant designer to the set designer Anna Kelsey and the costume designer Abeda Begum. This meant that each day, I was helping creating elements of the set (painting, building IKEA chairs, creating a cafe sign), and also helping costume with fittings, sourcing costume items, and organizing the large amount of costumes during the moves to other accommodation and then the theatre.

I learnt so much from the creative team and the tech team over those two weeks, the amount of work everyone puts into getting the show to be the best it could be. The cast themselves were amazing, dedicating so much energy to creating the stunning show it was.
