Black Men Walking

Updated: Nov 20, 2023

I went to see 'Black Men Walking' with a friend, and the first thing I noticed when entering the theatre, was that the set was already om stage, visible to the audience. The performance was about 3 men, Thomas, Matthew, and Richard, walking on a weekend in the Peak District. Each have their own problems which are discussed on the duration of their walk. Later on, another charachter, Ayeesha a 19 year old rapper is introduced, who went to the hills to escape the racist insults thrown in the city. The four of them have to get out of the hills as the weather turns for the worst, where they encounter danger that they manage to get out of. The performance has interludes of rap about the history of Black people in England, and from Ayeesha, what happened in the city.

The performance was amazing, all on a stationary set so no attention was driven away from what the performance was about and what the characters were saying. I would go see it again if I could.
